Squid Fear City Pop-Art Graffiti Artist Jessica Guevara
When passion and artistic expression forge, a complicated relationship ensues. Creativity’s unrelenting drive will take you in different directions sometimes all at once. Art on the other hand can require patience, focus, and persistence.
Creating balance in my world meant learning to use the energy that swings like a pendulum. The energy is always flowing and pushing through as it clashes and splatters on the canvas of my life. This allows my Squid Fear City art to take form. The literal fluidity of paint mixing and blending moving in and out from chaotic distortion to an awe-inspiring artistic elation is certainly a fickle relationship.
You do not know how and when inspiration will reach your doorstep. It is certainly confusing and chaotic. As a child I was one of eight siblings. I liken inspiration to it, in that there is a very thin line between the harmonizing joy of having so many siblings and the chaotic destruction left in its path. To the outsider it was undeniable that our day-to-day interactions were frenetic if not unyielding and unrelenting forces of destruction.
However, from within the emotions were artistic in nature. Happiness, sadness, agony, elation, anger, frustration, hate, and love are all forging the armor and shield already battle tested for the life and journey to come. I learned to burgeon the seeds of “controlled chaos” until they flourished and yielded a bitter but mostly sweet fruit of inspiration I’ve never tasted before.

“Controlled Chaos” are the words I would use to describe my art. Squid Fear City is a pop-art graffiti style that makes use of the controlled chaos within. It mixes vibrant colors with dramatized renderings of my emotions expressed in various mediums on canvas.
As a self-taught artist, I really worked on mastering my craft during my youth. A brush or pencil was always in my hand. I would paint and doodle incessantly, often to soothe my racing mind and nerves brought on by my ADHD.
After establishing my brand, I ventured off to college where I had hoped to explore new mediums and learn about other aspects of art and business. I graduated with an Arts Degree from BYU. While only the former was gained, my college years were definitely a life event. Today, every new life event, adds layers of depth and texture to my life and art.
